2021/22 Season Update

Update 27 September 2021

The NSW Government has announced the roadmap for easing restrictions as NSW reaches the 80 per cent double dose target. The NSW factsheet can be found here. We will closely monitor the roadmap and the advice from Surf Life Saving NSW and let you know as soon as we have clarity on when the nippers, education and surf sports seasons will start.

(Email sent to members on 16 September 2021)

Things will begin a little differently at the surf club this season due to COVID-19 restrictions. Whilst it may sound a bit challenging at the moment with all the restrictions, we want everyone to keep in touch and are determined to make it a great season once we are fully underway. We have summarised the key points below with more details later in the email for each area of the club.

Patrols

The flags go up at 10am on Sunday 19th September.

Nippers and Surf Sports

Not yet, we are looking to start as soon as the Public Health Orders allow - hold off registering for now.

Branch Carnival

We are again hosting the Branch Championships on 12-13 February - a great goal for the whole club to aim for, Public Health Orders permitt ing.

Education

Not in person, but online proficiencies are open. As soon as we have permission we'll give you dates for our usual courses (Bronze Medallion, SRC, ART, IRB Driver, IRB Crew, and more) - register your interest at the Education page of our website.

Registration

Registration is open on the SLS Members Area as usual so our patrollers can register, however, we do not recommend our Nippers register just yet. If you have friends and family who are keen to register as a new member, please forward them this email and encourage them to add their details to our mailing list here so we can keep them up to date and grow our wonderful club.

Active Kids Vouchers

We accept Active Kids Vouchers and have a great deal waiting for you - a membership and a voucher towards your uniform.

Patrols

Patrols will begin on Sunday 19th September, however, they are subject to strict guidelines and unfortunately anyone under 16 years old isn't able to patrol for the time being. All patrolling members must be registered by 31 October 2021 and have completed their proficiency requirements by 31 December 2021.

The Club's Patrol Plan and supporting information from SLSNSW can be found on Surf Guard. If you'd like to patrol with us, but don't have your Bronze Medallion, please register your interest at the Education page of our website and we'll be in touch when our education season starts - your club needs you.

Nippers

At this stage we do not have a start date for our Junior Activities due to the government restrictions surrounding community sport, but rest assured, we are looking to start nippers as soon as the Public Health Orders allow. We are looking for Age Managers for the 2021-22 season.

Please contact Jen at juniors@thirroulsurfclub.com.au if you would like to volunteer and have heaps of fun.

Nippers Academy

When we do get the green light, this year we are rolling out our Nippers Academy. These are free training sessions outside of nippers to improve skills and confidence in the water and on the beach. They will run twice a week and anyone from u8-u14 is very welcome.

Surf SportsWe have taken this opportunity to fix up our boards and are looking forward to our new and improved storage area. Our amazing coaches are ready and waiting to start Surf Sports training as soon as community sport is permitted to return under Public Health Orders.

We will continue to track which carnivals and events are scheduled and ensure we get as many of our athletes competing as we can. We are looking forward to once again hosting the Branch Championships on the weekend of 12-13 February 2022, Public Health Orders permitting.

Education

Education is currently restricted to critical education for patrollers only, however, we'd encourage parents and m embers t o use this time to do their online Age Manager and Safeguarding Children courses so we can be ready to hit the ground running when Nippers begins.

We are currently taking expressions of interest for training courses that we can implement once our normal education program can begin. Please take a minute to visit the Education page of our website and let us know what education you'd like to do this season.

We will send you details on how to access the training, and when you can complete the practical side as Public Health Orders allow.

Club Access

The Club, including the gym, the function hall, and board storage area, will remain closed until further notice, other than the patrolling area, for rostered patrollers and the emergency response team, our club is inaccessible.

In the meantime, the bui lding wo rk will continue and it is planned that the upgrade project will be completed well before the end of the year.

Staying Updated

We will keep you posted on key developments as they come to hand but if you have any questions in relation to this note, registrations requirements or any other aspect of the Club, please contact us at info@thirroulsurfclub.com.au
