We will be opening the beaches this weekend and the 2022 season will well and truly be under way. Please see below a summary of the key dates and activities to start the season.
If you haven’t already, please renew your membership now via the SLS website here so you can participate in our patrols, surf sports, education and nippers programs. If fees are not paid by 30 September then any access will be removed.
Surf Sports training starts Sunday 2 October at 8am. Training will then run on Sunday at 8am and Wednesdays at 4:30pm through the season
The first day of nippers is planned for Sunday 16th October - please arrive at 8.45am for a 9.15am start
We are looking for new patrollers, so anyone who's interested in getting their Bronze Medallion or SRC, please register for training here.
The Club, including the gym, and board storage area is fully open.
The Function Hall is available for bookings
We will be sending further emails and updating our website for patrols, surf sports, education and nippers, but for now please see a short summary below:
Patrols
Our flags go up at 10am on Sunday 25th September and will go up every Sunday and Public Holiday until 25th April 2023

Nippers Academy
Weekly training sessions commence on Wednesday 19th October 4 - 5:15pm and continue every Wednesday at 4pm and Sundays at 8am - anyone from U8-U14 is very welcome.
This season we will be focusing on water confidence, skill progression and a pathway for nippers to progress to entering competitions if they desire

Surf Sports
Board Training starts Sunday 2 October at 8am. Training will then run on Sunday at 8am and Wednesdays at 4:30pm through the season when all coaches are available. Training will run through the September/October school holidays and be led by Head Water Coach, Chris Meades
This season we will also be offering an ocean swim coaching session, which will run on Wednesdays at 4 - 4:30pm led by Head Water Coaches Naomi Foxall and Gill Sharratt. The first swim session will start on Wednesday 5 October and will run through the season

Events available: U8 (sprints, flags and wade) U9 - Masters, all surf, craft and beach individual events
Sydney Water Series’ main form of communication this season will be through Stack Team App. Download the Stack Team App onto your phone, then search for Sydney Water Surf Series and request to join to keep up with all updates and events
If you would like to enter the Sydney Water Series, please RSVP through Stack Team App. Search: Thirroul Surf Sports Academy. All events are listed in the event tab and you can read more information and RSVP there
Thirroul will be hosting Round 2 of the Sydney Water Series Carnival on Saturday 29th October and the Dean Mercer Dash on Sunday the 30th October. This should be a great weekend. We will be in contact shortly with more details and to ask for some assistance in running these events.
Our Club is also talking to SLSNSW about hosting a Beach Series event on the 19th November. Stay tuned for more information.

Competition Proficiency
All competitors who wish to compete in the Sydney Water Series need to complete their competition ocean swim proficiency for this season prior to competing
Proficiency sessions will run on Sunday 2 October at 8am, Wednesday 5 October at 4:30pm and Wednesday 12 October at 4:30pm. You only need to do it once to be signed off for the season!
All competitors competing in Sydney Water Series need to have their competition ocean proficiency swim completed and signed off by 12 October
For U9 and U10 competitors, the ocean swim proficiency is 150m. For U11 upwards, 200m ocean swim. Come prepared with goggles and a swim cap at one of the proficiency dates listed above! The Coach will sign competitors off once completed
Education
The focus is still on completing proficiencies online - see our information sheet here

The Function Hall can now start taking bookings in accordance with the NSW Government Health orders so book in and promote it with your friends and family!
