SURF SPORTS ACADEMY

The Thirroul Surf Sports Academy are regular training sessions that guide and develop our aspiring youth athletes to enable them to perform to their greatest potential in competitions. The Academy is designed to bring the best out of all levels of competitors and is inclusive and open to all our youth members. It runs alongside our Nippers Academy that offers training sessions for those who just want some extra training and may not necessarily want to compete.

"Supporting the development of young people and adults to help build brighter futures through training and racing"

Our Intention

  • Support the development of young people and adults to help build brighter futures through training and racing.

  • Produce capable water persons who understand the environment they operate in and can facilitate fulfilling life experiences around aquatic environments for themselves and others.

  • Build a strong club future through the retention of young people; giving them a sense of belonging and achievement.

What we provide

  • Scheduled and planned weekly training session throughout the summer season.

  • Fun-filled development days in school breaks and/or weekends.

  • Support to attend SLS endorsed competitions.

  • A sense of belonging with a Thirroul Surf Spots Academy Hoodie/t-shirt

Supporting the Program

Parental support is a strong part of the success of our program. We ask that at least one parent in every competition family lends regular support at carnivals and training. Further details on this can be found on the Training and Competition page.

It must be noted that training sessions are not a babysitting service and the carer responsible for the athlete must be in attendance at all times (unless prior arrangements have been made with the Head Coach).

Coaches show care and concern for all athletes but throughout the training sessions must keep a close eye on all participants in the water therefore are unable to attend to minor injuries or concerns of the athletes until all other participants have exited the water. Carer attendance is required to attend to these type of situations.
