TRAINING & COMPETITION
Thirroul Surf Life Saving Club runs regular training sessions and organises for our competitors to take part in various events. Our volunteer coaches and support crew do a great job, but we ask all those who take part to do their part, by understanding what is expected in terms of safety and regulations and for our youth to make sure they include their adult parent or carer to support them and help us out!
"Building a strong club future through the retention of young people; giving them a sense of belonging and achievement"
Training
Thirroul Surf Sports Academy runs three training sessions a week, for athletes (u9 and above) who are interested in competing. Unfortunately, due to limited resources and the safety requirements of surf sports, places in training session are limited. Please note: an athlete cannot attend Thirroul Surf Sports Academy Training until they have been accepted as a member (i.e. signed the commitment form and completed the skills evaluation).
The coach on the day, reserves the right to refuse any athlete joining a training session, if the coach feels; conditions, numbers, or ability of an athlete will compromise the safety of the individual or the group.
Training sessions will occur on the following days/times, in all conditions. If surf conditions are not appropriate athletes will participate in dry land skills and fitness.
-
Sunday 8 - 9am (prior to Nippers)
-
Wednesday and Thursday 4:15 - 5:15pm
If you are interested in competing at carnivals and therefore wish to attend our training sessions please contact the Director of Surf Sports via surfsports@thirroulsurfclub.com.au
Safety Requirements
All athletes must wear a hi vis singlet when in the water and comply with the water safety ratios. If parents cannot provide the required water safety numbers, the training group will be split into smaller sizes and athletes will be required to do land based fitness whilst waiting for their turn in the water.
Competition
We are all competing for TSLSC and therefore all work together and cheer for each other. After an event it is important that children congratulate each other wherever they finish in an event. Remember although we want the best outcome for our own child, we are also a team and show respect for each other.
Target Carnivals
Our training programs are designed to prepare athletes for these targeted carnivals:
-
Illawarra Development Carnival
-
Illawarra Branch Championships
-
Sydney Water Series (4 carnivals at the beginning of the season)
-
NSW State Championships
In addition to the above, there are several other carnivals throughout the season that athletes may attend. All information regarding these carnivals will be communicated in 'Team App'.
Please remember that carnivals can only run with the support of parents and guardians. If you would like your child to compete for Thirroul then your continued assistance with water safety, officiating, team management and gear transport is required.
